OneSails Multi Tradewind Sail Nominated for the DAME Design Awards 2025

The new Multi Tradewind Sail has been officially nominated for the DAME Design Awards 2025, one of the most respected recognitions in the marine industry for design, innovation, and product development.
This year’s competition reached record numbers — 146 entries from 37 countries, of which 67 were selected as official nominees.
Being among them is a strong acknowledgment of the technology, craftsmanship, and performance behind our newest sail.

Shaping the Multi Tradewind Sail

The Multi Tradewind Sail was born from an idea within the OneSails Palma team: to create a multi-purpose downwind sail capable of adapting seamlessly to the wide range of angles and conditions faced during long ocean passages.
From the initial sketches and aerodynamic studies to material testing, production, and rigging, every stage of development was managed in-house by the Palma loft.
The result is a versatile, efficient, and easy-to-handle sail — one that reduces the need for multiple downwind sails and simplifies life offshore, without compromising performance, while excelling in light-wind conditions.

Already Crossing the Atlantic

The yacht Kalmahe is currently crossing the Atlantic equipped with the Multi Tradewind Sail, putting it through real ocean conditions of shifting winds and long passages.
This live ocean crossing perfectly demonstrates the sail’s ability to deliver stability, power, and ease of use when it matters most.

Performance: One Sail, Multiple Tradewinds

The Multi Tradewind Sail was conceived to simplify downwind sailing across long ocean passages. Traditionally, sailors rely on two gennakers or multiple downwind sails to cover the wide range of apparent wind angles encountered when crossing the trades. Switching between them means added gear, more handling, and potential downtime.

The Multi Tradewind Sail replaces that complexity with a single, adaptable configuration. Its unique geometry and structure allow it to maintain shape and stability across both broad-reach and deeper downwind angles — effectively doing the job of two gennakers in one sail.
When the wind shifts, there’s no need for a complete sail change: simply trim, ease, and keep moving.

The result is a sail that delivers continuous power, reduced workload, and maximum efficiency — ideal for long passages like Kalmahe’s current Atlantic crossing, where consistency and simplicity are key.

Meet Us at METSTRADE 2025

The Multi Tradewind Sail will be on display in the DAME Design Awards Exhibition during METSTRADE 2025 in Amsterdam, from 18 to 20 November 2025.

You’ll also find the OneSails team at Stand 8.562, where Peter, CEO of OneSails Palma will share the story behind the sail’s development — from the first sketches to the rigging and its current Atlantic performance aboard Kalmahe.

We are proud to announce that our Multi Tradewind Sail, projected and developed by OneSails Palma, has been nominated for the next edition of the DAME Design Awards. The sail is already proving itself on Kalmahe, currently crossing the Atlantic.
OneSails’s 4T FORTE technology is now on board the Neoliner Origin project, which offers genuinely decarbonized maritime cargo services based on the efficiency of using wind as the primary means of propulsion.
OneSails is proud to announce the affiliation of a new sail loft in Lorient, France – a globally recognized epicenter of offshore sailing. This strategic addition not only reinforces the brand’s growing presence in the French market, but also strengthens its long-term commitment to ocean racing.
What a spectacular week it was at the 2025 Copa del Rey MAPFRE—one of the most competitive regattas on the calendar—and a true highlight came from TECHNONICOL, skippered by Estonia’s Mati Sepp, who claimed the ORC B European Championship title after an intense head-to-head contest that went right to the final race.
The 2025 Optimist World Championship, hosted in the coastal town of Portorož, Slovenia, brought together the world’s top young sailors. OneSails emerged as the most dominant sailmaker in the fleet, powering 113 boats—more than any other brand. The championship saw top performances from sailors using OneSails: 🥈 Mihael (Slovenia) – 2nd Overall 🥉 Karl (Demark) – 3rd Overall 🥉 Margaux (Hong Kong) – 3rd Girl Overall
This morning, just after 5 AM CET, Conrad Colman crossed the finish line of his second Vendée Globe, completing a grueling race across three oceans, rounding three legendary capes, and covering nearly 23,906 nautical miles of the theoretical course. 21st overall | 4th among non-foilers | Battling with the top 3 throughout the race and finishing just over 24 hours behind the first of them. He crossed the line only 13 minutes behind the legendary Jean Le Cam — an extraordinary achievement!
