As an alternative to the 4T FORTEâ„¢, M3â„¢ and Vektor2â„¢ continuous yarn options and VantageOneâ„¢ glued membranes, OneSails offers more traditional woven cross-cut and tri-radial panelled sails.
Woven cloth - the underrated sail material.
Even today, fabrics are still very popular. That's right, because fabrics are made without glue and without film. They are robust, durable and inexpensive. Sails in CrossCut are also the most cost-effective to manufacture.
Many will know, a fabric consists of long warp and short weft threads, which are interwoven at 90 ° angle. So that diagonal loads can be absorbed, as they occur, for example, in the sheet area of a Genoa 1, the cloth manufacturers have come up with some ideas. For example, the polyester fibers are shrunk by heat after weaving. The fabric becomes more compact and gains in diagonal stability.
In heavily stretched sails, where the luff is a multiple of the lower leg length (called the high aspect ratio in English), the load is mainly parallel to the leech. These sails require a stronger weft (English "strong ll") to absorb these high forces. Typical high aspect sails include the Genoa 3 and sleek mainsails.
Suitable cuts
Depending on the aspect ratio and equipment, we recommend the CrossCut unlimited to 35 square meters. For larger sails, the radial cut has its advantages in terms of dimensional stability, service life and lower weight.
We use the following fabrics from Dimension Polyant for CrossCut: All Purpose (AP) and Stong Fill (SF) for high mileage and C Breeze (CB) for less than 750 miles per year.
Suitable for: all sailors who are looking for uncomplicated and durable sails with high profile life.
