COST EFFECTIVE CONTINUOUS YARN TECHNOLOGY

Using a grid of continuous yarn on an adhesive film, Vektor represents the development of more than twenty years of experience in the construction of sails. This technology shares a number of processes and components with the manufacturing of the Millenium sails but permits the production of sails for both cruising and racing with an optimum cost / performance ratio. However whereas Millenium fuses the structural grid to the layers of Mylar® that form the laminates using pressure and temperature, Vektor applies the grid at high pressure to the film that constitutes the sail with reinforced fibre tape, which in turn is reinforced with the secondary grid at high pressure. Unlike the methods used for similar products in the market, Vektor uses a reinforced tape made of a single yarn, as opposed to multiple yarns. This permits the structural capacity of the fibres used in the grid to be used to their full potential with a wide freedom of layout and complete control over the sail's ability to retain shape across its entire surface. This is made possible by the wide micro-distribution and independence of each structural element. With the overall parameters of the sail being equal - in particular weight - a superior structure is achieved, permitting efficient distribution of loads. The very latest innovation introduced exclusively by OneSails is the use of Dyneema™ as the fibre for the structural grid. Dyneema&trade provides characteristics which are distinctly superior to the aramid fibres both in terms of durability and of performance. Additional benefits are a greater stretch resistance and strength, together with a significantly reduced weight. As well as Dyneema™. Vektor sails are also available using a carbon structural grid for maximum performance and in Fibreglass and Pentex. Fibreglass and Pentex offer an optimal blend of price and performance and allows access to continuous yarn technology (one-piece sails) at prices and conditions which are competitive relative to sails constructed with traditional panel technology.
