Short Description
DEDE SAILING DIARY (DSD) is a database software created to help sailors to collect tuning information and to estract final results based on a vote system. How to use Dede Sailing Diary
Since the vote system is personal and subjective, it is important that the votes are assigned always by the same person. The first area to check is Measures, under Global options. Here you have to specify all the measures you will be allowed to take on boats, along with the possible measure units. This area is common to every boat; however, for each boat you will be able to specify which subset of the global measure you are interested in.
Step 1.
Create a new boat.
This is done from the Dede Sailing Diary panel, clicking on the New button at the bottom.Setup the measurement parameters
Setup the measurement parameters of the specified boat. Here you will be able to choose which of the global measures you are interested in, for this particular boat. If you need a measurement which is not in the global list, you will have to insert it there first, before being able to use it in a boat. The order will be the same displayed in the regatta/training module, so the advice is to put on the top the parameters mostly used.
Step 2.
List of sails
Update the list of sails of the specified boat.Adding data
Start adding trainings and regattas. To make the job easier and faster, the New/Copy option creates an identical mask, where tou can make the only few required changes. This is useful during a regatta event, or a training session were many parameters remain identical.Step 3.
Queries
Make queries! Conditions are the limitations of the query, while fields are the parameters you want to see in the result. The vote system has different parameters:
Data quality: depends on how sure you are about the vote. For instance, in a shifty day, data quality will be low; in a long, stable, well positioned speed test, data quality will be high.
Beat/Run: to divide performances - this is necessary since it is often possible to be fast upwind and slow downwind or viceversa.
Score: is a simple 'scholastic' vote, from 3 to 10, of the general VMG
Height/Speed: to explain better how the VMG was obtained. For instance, sailing high but slow, or fast and high, and so on.
These different options will give the possibility to make as accurate queries as we like.
Finally, in the regattas section there is the tactic area that is optional, but will be useful to make site queries about the sailing places. When you return to sail in a place where you already raced, you can easily and quickly give a look to the comment you did. This area is not depending on the type of boat.
